Soda Machine Scam

Filed under: Other — admin @ 5:37 pm

Story: When I was younger (and had no money) my friends and I were always thinking of good ’scams’ to get a couple extra bucks. The one we found the easiest, and most effective was the ’soda machine scam’ - (but now that I think about it, it really was just scamming people with the help of the soda machine)

NOTE: I’m simply telling you a story. I will not be held responsible for anything you do with this knowledge and don’t recommend you EVER do this.

Anyway, what we used to do is find a soda machine that charged less than a dollar, but still had a ‘bill inserter’. We’d take a small (but firm) wad of toilet paper and stuff it into the little plastic pipe that gives you the change. I always had to do that part because I had the smallest hands. Then, when someone would put in their dollar, it would give them their soda, but their change wouldn’t come out. We’d watch them kick the machine and repeatedly push the ‘change button’, but after a few minutes they’d give up. Anyway, we used to let the change accumulate for a couple of days before we’d come back and take out the wadded toilet paper. Each machine got us a couple bucks that we used to buy dirty magazines and cigarettes with. :)

  1. Tougher to find a soda machine that charges less than a dollar now. But it would work better than ever with a machine that charges $1.25 ;)
